Why Psychology? 

Anybody with an interest in the wonderful complexities of the human mind and behaviour will love this course.  

Studying A-level Psychology also gives insight as to why you think the way you do – and understanding of others. 

Employers across multiple industries value this course. You will develop transferable skills such as critical thinking, analysis and decision-making. 

 

What can I expect? 

Our teacher has 20 years’ experience and is ready to enthuse and engage you in applying psychological theories to everyday life. 

The course covers an array of topics; from exploring how memory works to the origin of mental disorders. We question how obedient we are and the extent that early attachment bonds shape the rest of our lives. 

You also become experts in a variety of research methods, enabling you to design and assess your own research.

What enrichment opportunities will be offered? 

During Year 12 you will explore primate behaviour and carry out an observational study at Twycross Zoo. 

You will also design, conduct and analyse your own investigation into a topic of your choice.  

Assessment

Three exams, each two hours, all sat at the end of the course. 

Each exam follows the same format and assesses three skills; knowledge and understanding, application, analysis and evaluation. 

Requirements

A GCSE grade of 6 or above in Maths and Biology are required to choose this course 

Where can it lead?

Many universities regard Psychology as a Science subject, helpful for medical ambitions. You may have an interest in helping or caring professions, counselling, nursing, occupational health or clinical psychology. 

It is hard to think of careers Psychology is not linked to – given our focus on human behaviour. Psychology makes you very useful and employable. 

From working in elite sports, marketing and advertising, human resources, scientific research, criminal profiling or supporting students.
