NUAST Hosts VEX Robotics IQ Competition
NUAST today hosted 15 teams from local schools for the annual VEX Robotics IQ competition.
This is the second time that NUAST has hosted the VEX IQ competition for external teams since introducing it in school in 2019. Teams came from schools in Derby, Coventry and London to take part.
The competition is similar to that of the VEX Robotics Competition for KS4/5 students but is aimed at KS3 with an emphasis on teamwork rather than competitiveness.
Teams were tasked with designing, building and programming a robot than could throw balls in to a raised basket and then hang from a bar, all in one minute. Teams had been working hard throughout the season and came to the NUAST event to show what they had made.
Judging for the competition was provided by Andy French of the Computer Science department at The University of Nottingham.
Daniel Wood, Head of Computing commented: "VEX Robotics is a growing competition in school and we have seen great enthusiasm with our already establish competition for KS4/5 students. It is great to see so many KS3 students working together to solve problems and we are looking forward to hosting again next year."
