NUAST Hosts VEX Robotics Competition

Teams from across the UK joined us at NUAST on Saturday for the annual VEX Robotics Competition.

The competition asks teams to design, build and program a robot that can take part in a points-scoring games against other schools. This year the challenge was to build a robot that could pick up bases and balance them on a seesaw-like platform.

This is the fourth year that NUAST have hosted this exciting event which was attended by more teams than ever before. Twenty teams in total from across a range of schools, some traveling from as far as Norfolk, London and Oxford.

The NUAST event is part of a calendar of regional events culminating in the National Finals in Telford later in the year. The NUAST teams have already competed at a number of other schools so far this season.

Judging for the event was provided by Colin Johnson of the Computer Science department at The University Of Nottingham with whom we are looking forward to making deeper links with.

Daniel Wood, Head of Computing said: "It has been wonderful to see so many teams join us at NUAST for our fourth annual VEX Robotics Competition. A number of schools are new to the competition this year and it was great to have them involved as well as a number of returning schools. Students have put a great deal of work in to their robots this season and it is fantastic for them to see Computer Science come alive in this way. Thanks to all those that helped out and attended."

NUAST are hosting another competition next weekend for KS3 students and we look forward to welcoming a new set of teams to our school.
