Welcome to PSHE
At NUAST, Personal Development includes a variety of different aspects to ensure we deliver a transformational curriculum which supports our students to go beyond what they thought possible and lead fullfilling lives . An overview of our wholistic approach to ensuring a transformational personal development curriculum is on this link. NUAST Personal Development includes lessons which aim to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to make well informed decisions relating to relationships, health and the wider world. As they transition into adulthood, this will enable them to tackle challenges with resilience, be respectful of others and the environment and have high aspirations to go beyond what they thought possible.
Our curriculum plan below shows the range of topics delivered and when they are planned to be delivered. Parent/carers may find the links below useful when having conversations about these topics at home along side the curriculum plan which shows when topics are taught. PSHE Curriculum Plan.
The PSHE and RSE policy can be found here.
Statutory guidance
As of September 2020, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education are statutory requirements in secondary schools. We have updated our policy and curriculum to ensure that we are meeting the guidance. The curriculum we use is bought in and comes highly recommended by the TES. We have cross referenced this with the statutory guidance and made adaptations to ensure that topics missed due to COVID are re taught and revisited.
Our senior leader overseeing PSHE is Mr Schober (Assistant Head Teacher) and can be contacted via email at nschober@nuast.org
