Flying Start to Y12 Mathematics

Summer preparation

The Step up to A level from Higher GCSE is very manageable if you had mastered all of the content before your GCSE but you need to be ready for a fast paced, challenging start.

  • The purpose of giving you a summer bridging task is:
  • To provide a bridge from level 2 (GCSE) to level 3 (A-Level/BTEC) study, and lead into the early stages of the course.
  • To engage you in independent learning which is required at level 3.
  • To encourage you to develop your work ethic and commitment to study.
  • To measure your suitability for the course and assess your initial levels of achievement.

Task: Review your GCSE skills from the list below. Chapter 1, 2, and 3 will help you prepare for a “diagnostic” test at the beginning of term, to see what knowledge you have after studying for your GCSEs.
